Main Research Areas

Organic synthesis, biological chemistry and structural biology form the basis of research at the institute. It aims to discover new active substances and elucidate their mechanisms of action. The main pillars of this research can be divided into the following categories:

  • Organic synthesis (natural product chemistry, total synthesis, synthetic methods, organometallic chemistry)
  • Synthetic biology
  • Medicinal chemistry
  • Chemical biology
  • Structural biology (nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy on both solids and liquids)

These focal points also led to the spin-off of the Center of Biomolecular Drug Research at Leibniz Universität Hannover. Most of the Institute's research groups are involved in this center, where they cooperate with groups from the Hannover and Braunschweig areas.
