Main Research Focus

The main focus is on synthetic modular systems for the functionalization of polysaccharides (hyaluronic acid, alginate, dextran, pullulan, glycogen, lentinan and carboxymethylcellulose) with "clickable" aldehyde and hydrazide groups as well as other bioorthogonal coupling methods. This allows hydrogels to be generated in vivo by simply mixing the components. Moreover, the "clickable" polysaccharide can be orthogonally decorated with bioactive ligands such as cyclic RGD pentapeptides as cell adhesion factors. Through this, a hydrogel library can be prepared based on a wide variety of polysaccharides.

In addition, mass spectrometric methods are used for the purification and identification of plant and marine metabolites in various collaborative projects.
